The ASCE Mobile Branch, through the efforts of volunteers in our Younger Member Committee, is forming an official Younger Member Group (YMG) for our area engineers. The group is being formed for engineers age 35 and under and is being created to help bridge the gap between college graduates and career professionals in the Mobile area.
Here’s a little useful information about the ASCE Younger Member Groups:
- There are about 110 local Younger Member Groups within ASCE.
- The YMG’s are divided into three Younger Member Councils, with Mobile in the Eastern Region Younger Member Council (ERYMC).
- Membership in a YMG provides many resources and benefits to help you grow professionally and grow your career.
- As a member, you will be able to vote, hold office, and exercise your abilities in making the group more effective in the professional development of other young engineers.
- The YMG offers you an opportunity to expand your technical education, leadership skills, and become an involved civil engineer.
Call for Volunteers and Participants
This spring, the Younger Member Committee established bylaws which are waiting for approval. Once approved, our Younger Member Group will officially start in October, with the election and induction of YMG officers.
If you’re a young engineer that wants to get involved with the YMG and if you want to help lead and determine the direction of this group, we encourage you to apply for a leadership position. As a Group leader, you will be responsible with helping plan and coordinate technical, social, professional, and community service activities. You will also get the opportunity to attend a regional Younger Member Council meeting in January or February, where you will collaborate with other young leaders from across the country to develop your leadership skills and learn the keys to a successful YMG.
